Dr. Madhureeta Achari has partnered with Go Imaging to obtain NeuroQuant®,
the first volumetric MRI processing software available in Houston.
WHAT is it?
NeuroQuant® is advanced software that uses artificial intelligence to precisely measure brain atrophy (shrinkage) in the volume of the hippocampus and other brain structures. Brain atrophy occurs with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and with disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), other types of dementia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and traumatic brain injury.
NeuroQuant® is used alongside your structural MRI to measure brain volume in 15 distinct regions, generating reports about each region and comparing the results to a database of healthy people of the same age and gender.
WHY is it important?
Patients with MCI and decreased hippocampal size are four times more likely to progress to AD in a few years compared to patients whose hippocampus is a normal size.
The hippocampus in a healthy patient shrinks at about 1% per year, compared to about 5% per year in a person with AD. The ability to precisely identify minute changes in your brain can help predict the onset of dementia and monitor disease progression. It can also help Dr. Achari to discern treatable causes of dementia from progressive neurodegenerative diseases.
HOW does it work?
Dr. Achari orders the MRI w/NeuroQuant® from Go Imaging.
Go Imaging will call you to schedule an appointment.
NeuroQuant® software is used in post-processing, (after your MRI) so your experience will be the same as with a standard MRI.
You will schedule a follow up with Dr. Achari to review your results.
WHAT does it cost?
You can file a claim with your insurance for the MRI as you would normally.
At this time the use of NeuroQuant® software with your MRI is not yet covered by insurance.
There is a $400 fee to use NeuroQuant® software, to be billed from Integrated Neurology via email with a secure link to pay online. This includes a detailed review of your results.
